FUAS (Federation of Universities of Applied Sciences) is the strategic alliance formed by Häme Universities of Applied Sciences, Lahti Universities of Applied Sciences and Laurea Universities of Applied Sciences. The alliance will be dissolved on 1 January 2018.
Based on the decisions of the member institution boards, the FUAS governing board, at its meeting on 6 June 2017, decided to dissolve FUAS. This is a consequence of the different structural development trends in the regions of southern Finland. In addition, the national cooperation of higher education institutions is strengthening and for example, more and more summer studies are offered nationally by higher education institutions. Higher education institutions are also increasing their national and international partnership networks under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Culture, for example in global education.
Kari Salmi, chairman of the governing board, states: "Cooperation has been successful and developed the operations of member universities. Now it is time to move on to the following stage and further promote these universities for the benefit of students, business and industry, and the region."
In 2017, FUAS will continue to operate according to the annual plan and after that, the universities will still work together within normal university cooperation.
