RESEARCH FACILITIES IN HAMK EDU

HAMK Edu Research Unit works on customer-oriented research, development, assessment and forecasting projects. It promotes the development and management of research-based skills at the individual, team and community level. The development objective is that every individual and community can develop to their best potential by exploiting their strengths.

The focus areas of HAMK Edu Research Unit are professional competence for the future, excellence, career counselling and lifelong learning, teacher education, competence management and leadership as well as new learning solutions and digital competence. Research is carried out as part of a national and international network with other universities, research institutes, vocational training and industry organisations. Export of expertise generated by the unit and international collaboration in research extends globally from Europe to Asia, Africa and Latin America.

The unit works on customer-oriented research and development. Global capacity-building, assessment forecasting projects are part of our activities. We promote the development and management of research-based skills at the individual, team and community level.

Hamk Edu offers facilities for post doc or doctoral studies in the fields of vocational and higher education including teaching, learning and guidance, education policy and management. Future work and work-based learning are also our focus areas.

It is possible to join into projects of research group as well as work with one´s own research project. Hamk is not paying any salary.

Supervision can be provided through supervision discussion with the main supervisor, or in research meetings and seminars of HAMK Edu. Supervising is offered in average 10 hours/semester. In the case of dr. candidate, supervising is in co-operation with his/her home university.

Experience in writing academic English text is required.

A good command of English is needed to manage at HAMK Edu research activities. HAMK’s recommendation for English language skills is level B2 in The Common European Framework of Reference of Languages.

HOW TO BEGIN

The first step is to send your research plan to Hamk/Edu. The research plan (5-8 pages, following APA style in references) includes description of the topic and its importance, short theoretical background, aims and research questions, methodology, results (if available) and description of the impact of research. Please also describe the current phase of your research and plans for the next year.

Point out the part (or/and chapters) of the study which you are planning to do in Hamk Edu. Describe also what kind of support you would like to get from HAMK Edu to your research. Explain the timetable and forthcoming publications.

The application process includes the online meeting in which you present the research plan and your motivation.
After about two weeks you will get the answer from Hamk Edu. It can be positive, ask for supplements or re-writing the research plan according to the feedback.

TIMETABLE 2020-21
– Research plans to Hamk/Edu dl 15th March.
– Processing of the research plans.
– Interviews by skype / Zoom 20.-24.4.
– Decisions to the applicants in the beginning of May.
– Starting of the studies in the beginning of September 2020.
– The recommended exchange period is from 2 to 12 months.

AFTER ACCEPTANCE
1) Take care of the accomodation and other practical issues.
2) Contact your supervisor in Hamk (nominated after in the acceptance process).
3) Suggest to Hamk Edu the timetable.
4) Inform you own university about your plans.
