Here at Häme University of Applied Sciences Ltd., we believe it is essential for individuals and especially current and future leaders, to develop a broader way of understanding the economic, social, and environmental changes and challenges companies face, and the opportunities which are ahead of them in relation to creating more sustainable businesses.

 

The Master’s Degree Programme – Management in Sustainable Business is a degree for you if you want to develop your own insights and enhance your capabilities in order to make informed choices and become more effective at influencing positive sustainable change in your field of business.

 

Our programme will strengthen your ability to

  • expand your knowledge of sustainability across various businesses, industries, and practices
  • argue the business case for sustainability informed by a comprehensive understanding of the impact of current global economic, social, and environmental pressures

Arrangement of studies:

You will network with experienced professors and enthusiastic students from all over the world via inspiring group discussions and reflections, lectures, and business presentations. As teamwork is an essential part of the studies, you will be equipped with excellent co-operational skills in a multicultural environment.

 

As the studies are implemented online, it is possible to study the degree from your own home country and while you are working. The part-time students’ challenges in time management are carefully taken into consideration when implementing the studies.

 

The studies start with an online orientation session on 7 August at 14.00 UTC+2. The first session of the courses will be held mid August. The first Intensive week will be held in Hämeenlinna University Centre 25-29 September.

 

During the entire study period, 2-3 intensive weeks are included and implemented with our international partner universities. The student can choose if they want to attend the intensive week on location or online. Some financial support for travelling can be provided, but the student needs to be prepared to cover some of the costs themselves.

Each course starts with an introductory session held online, followed by a development assignment done in groups. The lecturers will support the student groups throughout completion of the assignment and the lecturer is available for weekly guidance sessions for the groups. The different time zones are taken into consideration when arranging the guidance sessions.

 

You will walk away with:

Eligibility

You are eligible f​​or Master's Degree studies when you have completed relevant qualification and obtained required work experience.

The relevant qualification for Master's Degree Programme in Management in Sustainable Business

  • a higher education degree (UAS or university), which includes at least 15 credits of Bachelor’s level studies in the field of Economics and Business Administration.
  • a higher education degree (UAS or university) AND applicable work experience in the field of Economics and Business Administration.

 

Work experience

In addition to the required qualification, you need to have at least two years of work experience from the field of study of your higher education degree or from the field of study of the degree programme you are applying to. The work experience needs to be obtained after completing the higher education degree.

Notice: Work experience can be counted after completing a vocational college diploma (opistoaste) or a higher vocational diploma (ammatillinen korkea-aste, mm. insinööri) or another higher education degree. The work experience must be from the field of study of your higher education degree or from the field of study of the degree programme you are applying to.

The vocational college diploma and the higher vocational diploma are old qualifications offered in Finland before the year 2000. If you have completed a qualification comparable to these diplomas outside of Finland, please contact Admission services.

The work experience needs to be obtained by 31 July 2023.

The only kind of work experience accepted is one of which you have been given a testimonial by your employer. A testimonial should contain the exact date when your employment started and terminated, description of your tasks, employer’s contact information and total working hours (if part-time job). If you have worked outside of Finland and you have not been given such document by your employer, please fill out this form and attach it to your application together with a reference letter from the employer. The information that you provide will be used to verify if your work experience fulfills the eligibility criteria.

Entrepreneurship is accepted as work experience if you can provide a certificate of it given by a designated authority (in Finland i.e. a testimonial of YEL or MYEL insurance). If you have worked as an entrepreneur outside of Finland, please contact the Admission Services for instructions.

A part-time job is converted into full-time so that 150 hours or 20 full-length working days (at least 7 hours per day) are equivalent to one month. The work experience does not have to be continuous or obtained under the same employer.

Work placement or practical training are not counted towards work experience if they are included in the degree used in admission. Military service, non-military service or child-care leave are not counted towards work experience.

 

 

Tuition fees

EU/EEA students

There will be no tuition fee for EU/EEA citizens. In order to be exempted from paying tuition fees you need to attach one of the following documents to your application at Studyinfo.fi:

  • Passport or identity card to indicate the citizenship of EU/EEA/Switzerland (citizens of Finland are not required to provide proof of their citizenship as it will be verified from the population register)

The document must be downloaded to your application within one week after the application period has ended. Check the exact time from the timetable.

Non-EU/EEA students

As a non-EU/EEA-citizen you are required to pay tuition fees for Master’s degree studies. The tuition fee is €11700 per academic year.

The tuition fee must be paid at the time of confirming the study place. Please notice: tuition fees are charged directly by HAMK and should never be paid through third parties (i.e. educational agents).

You can be exempted from paying tuition fees if you:

  • have an EU Blue Card granted in Finland
  • have a continuous residence permit card in Finland, type A permit
    • NB: Type A permit granted for studying in Finland (from 15 April 2022 onwards) doesn’t exempt student from paying tuition fee.
  • have a permanent residence permit card in Finland, type P permit
  • have an EU Family Member's Residence Card in Finland
  • have an EU residence permit for third-country citizens with long-term residence permit card in Finland (Type P-EU)

In order to be exempted from paying tuition fees, please attach a copy of one of the above-mentioned documents to your application at Studyinfo.fi. The document must be downloaded to your application within one week after the application period has ended. Check the exact time from the timetable.

Student selection criteria

Student selection will be made based on a preliminary assignment (thesis plan) and an online interview.

Only applicants who have passed the preliminary assignment: thesis plan (minimum requirement 20 points, max 80 points), will be invited to the online interview. The online interview measures English language proficiency. Only applicants passing the language test will be considered for admission.

The Preliminary assignment consists of a thesis plan. You must upload the assignment to your application at Studyinfo.fi (or in My Studyinfo -service with the link in the email that you have received) within seven (7) days after submitting the online application.

 

Online interview

Applicants that pass the preliminary assignment will be invited to the online interview. The online interview measures English language proficiency. The interview is evaluated as passed/failed. Only applicants passing the interview will be considered for admission.

Applicants will be exempted from the online interview if they provide proof of their English language skills with one of the following documents:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree certificate completed in English in an EU/EEA-country
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree certificate completed in English in Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Canada, Australia or New Zealand
  • IELTS academic level, overall score 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT score 60
  • Pearson test of English, Academic minimum score 46
  • iTEP, Academic-Plus 3.7
  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency (Certificate of Proficiency in English) overall Cambridge English Scale score 169
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced (Certificate in Advanced English) overall Cambridge English Scale score of 169
  • National Certificate of Language Proficiency skills level 4 in all parts of the test (speaking, listening comprehension, writing and reading comprehension)

The language skills certificate must be uploaded to the online application within seven (7) days after submitting the application. IELTS, TOEFL and Pearson test of English are valid for two years.

 

Application practicalities

Apply through the direct application at www.studyinfo.fi between 19 January -  30 April 2023 3:00 pm (Finnish time).

The application form must be submitted before the application period ends on 30 April 2023 3:00 pm (Finnish time). After the application period has ended, it is no longer possible to submit the application.

 

Making changes to the application

Deleting the application is possible after the application period has ended. If you want to delete your application before the student selection has been made, please contact the Admission Services.

Changes in address or other relevant personal details can be changed any time (also outside the application period).

 

Student selection results

The student selection results will be published by 16 June 2023 at the latest.

You will be sent an e-mail if you are offered a study place. You then have time until 14 July 2023 at 3:00 pm (Finnish time) to confirm the study place.

Please notice that once you confirm the study place you cannot anymore accept any other study places leading to a higher education degree in Finland if the studies begin in the same academic term. The one-study-place-per-term-provision applies to higher education regardless of how the studies are provided. For example, if you have already accepted a study place offered to you in joint application or some direct application, you cannot then anymore accept a study place from the joint application or from direct application if the study programme begins in the same academic term.

 

Appeals

If you believe there has been a mistake in the student selection and the admission criteria have not been applied correctly, you can make a written request for rectification within 14 days after the student selection results have been published.

The request for rectification must be addressed to the Examination Board of Häme University of Applied Sciences and sent to HAMK, PO Box 230, 13101 Hämeenlinna, Finland within 14 days after the student selection results have been published.

Please notice: You are only allowed to submit one application. If you submit several applications the last application will stay in force.

Making changes to the application

You may change or delete the application preferences indicated on the application form until the end of the application period. Once the application period has ended, you may no longer:

  • add new preferences
  • delete individual preferences.

Please notice that once you confirm the study place you cannot anymore accept any other study places leading to a higher education degree in Finland if the studies begin in the same academic term. The one-study-place-per-term-provision applies to higher education regardless of how the studies are provided. For example, if you have already accepted a study place offered to you in joint application or some direct application, you cannot then anymore accept a study place from the joint application or from direct application if the study programme begins in the same academic term.

Appeals
