Marko Susimetsä

I work as a Principal Lecturer at HAMK School of Professional Teacher Education. My work focuses on professional teacher education, pedagogical development, and national and international education development, research and evaluation projects.

I have worked in teacher education and educational development for more than two decades. My main areas of expertise and interest include the development of teacher education and pedagogy, democracy and human rights education, multicultural and intercultural education, language- and culture-aware pedagogy, social innovation and the philosophical and societal dimensions of education. In recent years, my work has also increasingly focused on the pedagogical use of artificial intelligence and on strengthening teachers’ capacity to work in changing and diverse learning environments.

I have contributed to several national and international projects related to teacher education, curriculum development and the development and evaluation of education systems, including projects in Europe, Nepal, and Kazakhstan. From 2020 to 2023, I served as a member of the steering group for the Development of Democracy and Human Rights Education, a joint initiative of the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Justice.

I hold a PhD in Education Sciences. I also have a Master of Philosophy degree with a major in English Philology and minors in psychology and education sciences.
