At HAMK, we are strongly committed to fostering the development of our area. We work every day to make the world a better place, one step at a time.
We work in strong cooperation with companies and partners to develop and create change in our own region, throughout Finland and internationally. In these times, the success of the region is built through strong interaction and cooperation across borders. Sustainable development is an integral part of HAMK’s impact.
Excellent education and quality system
In our most recent audit (2022), HAMK performed very well in the audit: The areas of education and quality management were both evaluated to be at the level “excellent”. Research, development and innovation activities (RDI) and societal engagement were evaluated as “good”.
We bring added value to our region
In our stakeholder survey (2025), 84% of our stakeholders believe that HAMK adds value to its operational area.
Respondents are also very satisfied with their cooperation with us. They are most satisfied with the expertise (88%) and usefulness (82%) of communication, as well as the clarity and comprehensibility of information (79%).

Our core principles
Accessibility
HAMK wants to raise accessibility above the statutory minimum defined in a wide range of normative regulations and guidelines. We want to be a community where you can feel welcome and respected from the moment you arrive.
Responsibility
The principles of responsibility guide all of HAMK’s operations toward the objectives of our strategy from a responsibility perspective.

Häme University of Applied Sciences aims to ensure that every employee can feel that the corporate practices are fair, supportive and respectful of the employee.

Strategy
Campus development
HAMK is constantly growing and developing. Through campus development processes, we want to ensure that our facilities meet our evolving needs and support studying, research activities, and collaboration with our partners.
At the moment, we are exploring the relocation of our Hämeenlinna campus to the city centre. In Riihimäki, we are moving HAMK’s operations from Kaartokatu to Asemanseutu area. The modern campus could potentially be in use as early as 2027.

We are committed to developing the vitality of our operating area together with municipalities, local businesses, and other stakeholders. We also influence national and EU-level decision-making.

Our applied research makes a world better place
SmartBio – Smart Systems and Biotechnology
Our aim is to find ways for bio-based raw material production and a sustainable bio-cycle economy.
SmartBuilt – Smart and Sustainable Built Environment
We are creating new solutions to promote sustainable construction and a citizen-friendly and carbon-neutral built environment.
SmartEdu – Smart Future Education and Competences
We develop skills and innovate learning solutions together with working life and education organisations.
