HAMK contributes to achieving Vocational Excellence in climate adaptation and mitigation in Mozambique

Mozambique is a country located on the southeastern coast of South Africa with 80% of the population livelihood based on agriculture and smallholder farmers account for 95% of the country’s agricultural output. The VECRA-MOZ project aims to increase human capacity for climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture, offering training and employment opportunities for youth.

The goal of the project is to promote Vocational Excellence in climate-resilient agriculture, ensuring high-quality skills for jobs in an innovative and sustainable rural economy, focusing on partnerships with companies practicing climate-resilient agriculture.

The project will contribute to strengthening and improving the Mozambican Agricultural Technical Vocational Education and Training sector (ATVET) by upgrading key subjects from the current curricula and introducing new, modern, and climate change-adapted concepts. These updates will bring the curricula closer to European standards and shared EU values, thus facilitating more horizontal and productive bilateral technical and economic cooperation of interest to both parties.

The consortium includes Mozambican partners: Nhamatanda and Nacala colleges, Young Africa School, and ADPP-Mz, along with EU partners: Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) and CINOP, who is bringing international experiences to support capacity building with Mozambican partners. The private sector’s involvement is through the Provincial Business Council of Sofala.

The project will build capacity of local Mozambican TVET providers to strengthen cooperation between private and public stakeholders in the field of climate-resilient vocational education and training for demand-oriented and opportunity-driven TVET interventions. It will work with stakeholders to establish partnerships and promote collaboration via apprenticeships, trainings, and more.

The trainings will be tailored to meet the climate change challenges and the local sector needs and promote sustainability through engagement.

The VECRA-MOZ project is co-funded by the European Union Erasmus+/EACEA.
