Mustiala Campus’ Cows Run to Summer Pasture 15 May 2025

The cows in Häme University of Applied Sciences’ research- and educational farm in Mustiala campus will be put out to pasture at an event open to the public on 15 May 2025 at 10.00. In the event you can also learn more about agriculture and education, see other farm animals, a robotic tractor at work and Mustiala’s historical campus.

We are organising an event together with Häme Vocational Institute at Mustiala campus, where cows of our research- and educational farm will be let out to pasture and allowed to graze for the summer. The event starts at 10.00.

We will stream the event on MTK’s Youtube channel, so you can also follow the cows’ joy remotely.

Tekemistä ja näkemistä kaiken ikäisille

On the day of the event, in addition to cows you can see other farm animals as well, such as sheep and horses. Our partner MTK (The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners) will also be bringing toy tractors to the event, so the little ones in the family can practice driving! You can also climb up to the research- and educational cowhouse’s attic to see what it looks like inside the cowhouse, what breeds of cattle live in Mustiala and what actually happens inside. As a participant of the event, you’ll also get to visit the Mustiala Rural Museum and the historic campus, where agricultural education started in the 1840s. The AgXeed field robot from Hankkija will also be there to watch the cows go out to pasture, and there will be a demonstration of the robot at 13.00.

Lunch at Huttula will be served on the day of the event from 10.30-12.45, with sausage soup as main course and strawberry cream as dessert. The price for adults and pensioners is 10€, the student price is 5,50€. If you have a Kela meal subsidy card, you can get lunch for €2.95. If you are coming with a larger group, please let Sari Mattila know, sari.mattila@hamk.fi or 050-4552501.

About Mustiala’s research- and educational farm

Currently, we have about 80 cows living on the farm, which includes 185 hectares of arable land. We offer on-campus rural education in Finnish and English, and run annual experiments and trials in collaboration with research, extension services and businesses. Our farm has also been awarded Lighthouse Farm status by TP Organics, an organic network recognised by the European Commission, along with four other European farms.

Welcome to Mustiala campus!
