Wellbeing International Week 2024

Let’s get together and celebrate 10 Years of Wellbeing International Week!

Sustainable Future Makers

Join us for the 10th anniversary of the Wellbeing International Week at Häme University of Applied Sciences, HAMK, in Hämeenlinna, Finland!

This week-long event is a unique opportunity for lecturers and students from around the world to come together and share their expertise on topics related to nursing, social care, and early education.

The week has its roots in the first summer school organized by the Degree Programme in Crafts and Recreation in 2006. In 2013, the degree programmes in nursing and social services joined in and the event was renamed Wellbeing International Week. With the long successful history behind us, we are now focusing on the years to come.

In 2024, the theme of the week is Sustainable Future Makers, and we are looking for visiting lecturers who are passionate about helping to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

Join us for a week of learning, networking, and fun!

What to expect

There will be 20 visiting lecturers from 10 different countries and close to 50 visiting students from 6 different countries, studying together with more than 150 HAMK students.

The week starts with the conference on Monday, Feb 19th at 10:00. In addition to an online keynote presentation on Women and sustainable livelihood, from Dr. Bharathi, Christ University, India, we have two Finnish keynote speakers: Sirpa Pietikäinen, a member of the EU Parliament and Ulla-Maija Knuutti from HAMK.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the programme includes more than 30 workshops and lectures aligning with the theme of the week: Sustainable Futuremakers, but also with a focus on social work, nursing or education.

On Friday morning, starting at 9:00, there will be a closing session consisting of a couple of keynotes: the first one on Grassroots Human Rights: Steps for Social Work Action by Dr. Sharon du Plessis-Schneider, Flinders University, Australia, and the second one on Substantial leadership for sustainable futures by Dr. Ashok Gladston Xavier, Loyola College, India.

The opening session on Monday and the closing session on Friday will be held in the auditorium in Hämeenlinna University Centre and are open to everybody. The lecturers and workshops have a limited number of places available and require advance registration.
