Preparing for UAS Studies: Engineering Mathematics

Objective

The course is a preparatory mathematics course for engineering studies.
The course supports your studies in the field of technology in mathematical subjects.

Content

In the independent online course, you will review the following areas of mathematics:

- Quadratic equation
- Properties of a first-degree polynomial function
- Properties of a second-degree polynomial function
- Solving an exponential equation using logarithms
- The concept of the derivative and graphical/numerical differentiation

Schedule

The recommended completion time for the course is eight weeks.

Teaching methods

The course is delivered as an independent online course. Regular online Q&A sessions hosted by the teacher support your learning throughout the course. The learning environment is the Learn-Moodle platform. A more detailed schedule will be provided in the Learn-Moodle workspace.

You can take preparatory studies, for example:

- if you want to test or develop your skills for upcoming university of applied sciences (UAS) studies or entrance exams
- if you need additional preparation during your UAS studies
when completing pathway studies to transition smoothly from upper secondary education to higher education
- if you simply want to refresh your basic skills for your own interest

You must have access to a computer, as digital learning environments and materials are used in the studies.

Learning material

Learning materials are available in Moodle. There is no separate textbook.

Class schedule

The course requires independent work. Time should be allocated weekly for studying learning materials and completing assignments. The student can manage their workload according to their own schedule.

Additional info

Nonstop online course. You can start studying approximately one week after registration.
Please note that the completion time for the study in the open university of applied sciences is 3 months.

Open university of applied sciences students: Registration ends on May 31, 2027, at 23:59. The studies are paid for at the time of registration. All registered students can participate in the course. Please note, that enrolling for open studies requires a Finnish personal identity number. More information about registration, fees, and studies in the open UAS can be found at: https://www.hamk.fi/avoin. Open UAS students can provide course feedback after completing the course.
