From Research Results to Innovations
The goal of our innovation work is to strengthen the impact of research and development. We accelerate the implementation of research results in practice and the commercialization of innovations. We also encourage and support our students in startup entrepreneurship and innovation activities.
In practice, HAMK’s innovation activities are focused on impactful and scalable solutions that support sustainable growth, regional vitality, and the renewal and competitiveness of businesses. We offer companies support, for example, with product development, business development, and breaking into new markets. Research, development, and network collaboration come together in large projects in areas such as dual-use technology, research supporting security of supply, and sustainable industry.
Our research is aimed at concrete solutions, which, with the support of HAMK’s innovation unit, can be commercialised into new business. In addition to commercialising research results, our education is based on an innovation-friendly approach, from which new ideas are developed further. Our modern RDI (Research, Development, and Innovation) environments, such as the SmartBio education and research environment completed in 2025, support our activities.
National and international co-development is also essential, exemplified by the RUN European University (RUN-EU). RUN-EU is an alliance of regional and European higher education institutions, of which HAMK is a member. Together, these actions lay the foundation for innovations that benefit businesses, the region, and students alike.
Launchpad HAMK
Launchpad is an accelerator—a program designed to help you develop your innovation into a fully-fledged startup. Launchpad HAMK is HAMK’s own innovation accelerator service, which helps you commercialize your innovation. As a HAMK student, you can use Launchpad’s services free of charge. At Launchpad HAMK, you can develop your idea and get support to turn it into a startup or other form of implementation.
We offer you a variety of tools, depending on your situation and what will be most beneficial to you. For example, we offer:
- an innovation voucher for students
- the opportunity to rent space and equipment
- general guidance on the startup process (book a time with us through Pre-launch HAMK below)
- useful networks
- opportunities to practice pitching
- assistance with user testing or market research
- assistance with the patent process
- guidance on applying for funding from Business Finland
In addition to these, Launchpad HAMK can offer you, for example, access to FiBAN’s Pitch Finland events, where you can meet venture capitalists and other like-minded innovators.
