Accessibility Statement

We want to go beyond the minimum requirements when it comes to accessibility
The website of Häme University of Applied Sciences was renewed in early 2024. According to the agreement, the technical implementer of the pages is committed to delivering a website that meets technical requirements at least at the AA level.
The creators of the website strive to ensure digital accessibility for individuals with functional limitations. We continuously improve the user experience and adhere to relevant accessibility standards.
The current accessibility status of the www.hamk.fi website
(Updated on February 2, 2026)
Partially meets accessibility requirements.
Inaccessible content – The website is not yet fully compliant with the requirements.
Below are the shortcomings observed on the site, categorized according to accessibility principles.
General and previously observed shortcomings
Perceivable
- Heading structure: Some of the pages on the website have a partially incomplete heading structure. On several pages of the website, including the pages for courses, the heading structures are incomplete. Sometimes, multiple levels of headings are skipped.
- Accessibility requirements that are not met: 1.3.1 Info and relationships
- PDF files: Small deficiencies in the accessibility of PDF files. Some of the PDF files of the module maps on the Study Planning page have small deficiencies in contrasts. In addition, the PDF files lack lang and title attributes.

- Accessibility requirements that are not met: 4.1.3 Status messages
- Registration for supplementary training (https://taykkari.hamk.fi/kurssiilmo/hamk/): HTML markup is not completely valid.
- Accessibility requirements that are not met: 4.1.2 Name, role, value
- Note: Unreasonable burden to fix (the whole service should be renewed).
New observations (added February 2, 2026)
Projects (https://www.hamk.fi/tutkimus/hankkeet/)
- Perceivable: In filter placeholder texts, the contrast between the text and the background is not sufficient. In individual project highlights, heading levels are used in an illogical order (e.g., h3 without a preceding h2 heading).
- Accessibility requirements that are not met: 1.4.3 Contrast (minimum), 1.3.1 Info and relationships
- Operable: Filter form fields do not have programmatically associated labels.
- Accessibility requirements that are not met: 1.3.1 Info and relationships, 3.3.2 Labels or instructions
- Robust: The page content updates when filter selections change, but the changes are not announced to screen readers (missing aria-live region or similar solution).
- Accessibility requirements that are not met: 4.1.3 Status messages

Partially meets accessibility requirements.

Perceivable
