HAMK Master’s Students’ Insightful Week in Brussels Exploring the Heart of European Sustainability and Governance

HAMK’s Master’s degree programme Management in Sustainable Business orchestrated an enlightening and enriching intensive week for its students in the vibrant city of Brussels. This immersive experience, held in March 2025, offered students a unique blend of academic and practical insights, bridging the gap between their online studies and real-world applications.

A Glimpse into European Governance

During their stay, the students had the privilege of visiting several pivotal institutions, including the European Parliament, Tampere Region EU office, Confederation of Finnish Industries, European Economic and Social Committee, and the Committee of Regions. These visits provided an invaluable opportunity to understand the intricate workings of the European Union and its multifaceted interactions with various organizations.

Focus on Sustainability

Given the degree programme’s emphasis on sustainability in business and management, students were particularly keen to learn about the EU’s influence on sustainability initiatives. The insights gained from the visits highlighted the EU’s commitment to fostering sustainable practices across its member states, ensuring that economic growth is harmonized with environmental stewardship.

Fostering Connections

While the primary focus of the week was academic, the importance of personal connections was not overlooked. Since the majority of the degree programme is conducted online, the Brussels trip served as a platform for students to meet face-to-face. Joining the trip from various countries across Europe, students cherished the opportunity to engage with their peers and professors beyond the digital realm. Shared meals, informal discussions, and social gatherings were as crucial as the formal visits, providing a well-rounded experience that blended learning with building friendships.

Success and Enjoyment

The intensive week in Brussels was deemed a success by both students and teachers. The enriching blend of academic visits, practical insights, and personal interactions made an unforgettable experience. As the students returned to their respective countries, they carried with them not only a deeper understanding of European sustainability and governance but also stronger bonds with their colleagues and mentors.

This week in Brussels stands as a testament to HAMK’s commitment to providing its students with comprehensive, immersive, and impactful educational experiences, preparing them to be leaders in sustainable business practices.
