In MechJoint project we develop truss connection solutions for steel structures, and address the challenges in manufacturing, logistics and sustainability.
The global need to reduce carbon emissions in the construction sector is prompting companies to look for new ways to increase the circular economy in their own operations. In steel structures, trusses and their welded joints are often a barrier to reusing different components.
In MechJoint project we are developing innovative steel truss connection solutions that, through weldless joints, make it possible to dismantle and reuse various steel structures. We also aim to take this patented technology forward to be used by companies. The solution we are developing will reduce emissions in construction, improve production efficiency and promote the longevity of materials.
We aim to influence the whole value chain by enabling new logistics and assembly methods, promoting the reusability of components and providing environmentally friendly alternatives to existing technology. These solutions can be used, for example, in support structures for solar parks, building trusses, masts and signage for traffic routes.
We implement the project together with LUT University. We also conduct research with other national and international partners.
Target group
The main target group of the project are companies and authorities in the steel construction value chain at national and international level.
Area of activity
The results of the project will bring benefits at national and international level.
Project objectives and results
OBJECTIVES:
- Bringing new technological solutions and methods to companies through research results, related to manufacturing techniques for mechanical joints, coating and assessing the durability, life cycle and production efficiency of products.
- Providing companies with solutions that enable them to increase their export activities by introducing a new type of logistics-enabling solution.
- Promote the use of low-emission high-alloy steels and coating methods.
- Streamline and automate production and reduce quality management costs.
- Support SMEs and mid-sized companies to network with other companies, launch joint projects and increase R&D activities.
- Providing companies with knowledge of manufacturing techniques, coating, design and how to assess the life cycle of a product and its impact on its value.
