Kanta-Häme and Finland need international talent. We must now do a better job of attracting them.

Our experts, together with the three community counsellors and S2 career counsellor recruited for the project, will solve the problems the target group faces in attaching to the region and in making the transition to Finnish working life.

We will respond to the identified need to promote the employment of the target group in Kanta-Häme with concrete actions and services.

Target group

The main target groups of the project are international degree students of Häme University of Applied Sciences and newly graduated international alumni of Häme University of Applied Sciences.

The second target group is employers in Kanta-Häme, especially those responsible for recruitment and induction, who have a need to recruit and induct international experts. They can be HR staff, pre-employees, workplace induction officers or entrepreneurs. The project will serve the target group by supporting the capacity to recruit international talent and thereby strengthen the availability of labour.

The indirect target groups are the stakeholders in Kanta-Häme: employers’ and companies’ support, TE services, Kela, integration forums, Team Finland Häme actors, other various forums (immigration) and cities. In addition, the family members and other close circles of the international degree student, whose successful settlement will directly affect the attachment of the degree student or kv-alumnus to the local area.

Aggregated information

The Moment

The problems we have identified will be solved through concrete measures.

The S2 Career counsellor develops new operating models and service formats for international students and employers to support and promote Finnish language learning.

The focus of all content produced by the S2 Career Advisor is on motivating international students to practice Finnish and strengthen their language skills. The materials are field-specific and support learning in the workplace. The aim is that these S2 support materials will lower the threshold for employers to take on international students for internships or employment.
The services include workshops for international students, information on learning Finnish, and piloting different ways for them to practice Finnish during their studies and internships. The services strengthen international students’ and alumni’s understanding and knowledge base of Finnish work culture, job hunting, and contacting employers.

Community Counselors play a key role in creating and maintaining a diverse, equal, and vibrant campus community at HAMK. Their main goal is to support the integration of international degree students into their local campus environments.

Community Counselors act as approachable support persons for international degree students across campuses. They promote integration through a wide range of activities and events that encourage participation, interaction, and a sense of belonging.

The work of Community Counselors is grounded in daily interaction with students. It involves meeting students, listening to their experiences, and recognizing early or “quiet” signs of support needs. The role is primarily preventative, empowering, and supportive.

Through their work, Community Counselors contribute to student well-being and help build a safe, inclusive, and supportive campus community for everyone.
