More Than Studies: My Exchange Semester at HAMK
In autumn 2024, an exchange student joined Computer Applications at HAMK’s Hämeenlinna campus. The semester quickly became more than just studies, it was a journey of connection, personal growth, and lasting memories.
Making connections
During my time as an exchange student at HAMK, I thoroughly enjoyed interacting and working with other international students. It gave me new and improved insights in my professional and my personal career, as I feel like I made new connections all over the world.
Not always easy, but worth it
And even though I wasn’t totally enjoying the study modules that I had due to different perspectives of what I was hoping that I would learn, with perhaps the lack of support for exchange students that are doing a totally different course than they do in their own universities, I think they helped me a lot in developing me as a student who can use the newly taught skills in my own learning perspectives.
Events and memories
I would totally recommend HAMK to any student who wants to go for an exchange as the way how coordinators and students try and make you feel right at home even though you might be far away from it. Some of the student events give you memories for a lifetime and I would totally wish for other students to experience it the same way as I did.
Growing as a person
This exchange gave me the opportunity to see the academic world in a new way and taught me new responsibilities on a personal level as moving to a new country isn’t maybe the easiest for everyone, all though I think my time at HAMK made the move much easier for me.
