My internship at HAMK Career Services

Working as a student assistant at HAMK Career Services was a very positive and meaningful experience for me. I was able to take part in a variety of tasks and truly experience what it is like to be part of the Career Services team.

Across different campuses

During my internship, I had the opportunity to visit different HAMK campuses and gain a better understanding of how Career Services support students across the university.

Events and student support

One part of my role was helping to organise and support events. I assisted with events such as Mosaic and the Career Services stand at the recruitment event, where we offered CV photoshoots to students. Another student assistant and I took and edited photos, created posters and guidance materials, and helped introduce Career Services to students. Taking part in these events allowed me to support students with their careers while also developing my own skills in photography, editing, poster design, organisation, and communication.

Marketing and communication tasks

In addition to events, I worked on various marketing related tasks. I searched for job, thesis, and internship opportunities suitable for HAMK students and shared them on Viva Engage. I also wrote several articles that were published on HAMK’s website, which was a completely new and valuable experience for me. I contributed to social media posts and videos as well. I also took part in service design tasks, such as user research, and learned how to use HAMK’s internal working platforms.

Being part of the team

One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was being part of the HAMK Career Services work community. The team was friendly and welcoming, which created a supportive environment where I could learn and grow. Everyone was approachable and understanding, which made the work enjoyable and motivating. Working in an international team helped me make new connections, practise my communication skills, and truly feel like part of HAMK Career Services’ professional community.

Using the services myself

To truly understand the services, I also used many of them myself. I participated in the mentoring and Friendship Programme, attended Language Café sessions, and took part in career guidance counselling, as I also wanted support with my own career path. Through this, I gained a deeper understanding of how valuable and accessible these services are for students.

Looking back

I am very grateful for the opportunity to be part of HAMK Career Services. I am happy to know that I could contribute to supporting international students with their careers and integration into Finland while also learning about Finnish working culture and gaining skills that will support my future path. Most of all, I am grateful for the warm and inspiring people I met along the way!
