New student, welcome to HAMK!
Hello! My name is HAMKISSA, and I’m happy that you are here at HAMK!
Before we continue, let me teach you a little Finnish. The Finnish word “kissa” means “cat”. The word “HAMKissa” means “at HAMK”. Conveniently, my name is also HAMKISSA.
That means I’m both a HAMK cat and “at HAMK” at the same time! Pretty clever, don’t you think? 😉 Now you already know a little Finnish. I’m HAMKISSA, and I’m happy that you’re HAMKissa too!
Let me introduce myself properly. I’m HAMKISSA, a small helper from HAMK. You may see me here and there. Today I was asked to welcome all new students. So once again: Welcome to HAMK! You are now one of us, The Bettermakers!
During your first days and weeks, you will receive a lot of information and instructions. Many of you have moved to Finland from another country, so there may be lots of new things to learn and experience. So, welcome to Finland, too!
Even though there are many new things to learn, don’t worry! After a few weeks, things will already feel more familiar and your new routines will start to form.
Remember: you are not alone
The staff of your degree programme, such as guidance counsellors and lecturers, will help you with questions related to your studies. Your student tutors are amazing people too, so don’t be afraid to ask them for help. You can also meet other students in Goin’, HAMK’s virtual student community. At HAMK, we believe that every giant leap starts with a small step. (Well… I sometimes say one paw-step at a time, but the idea is the same. 😉)
