Scam calls to international students
Scammers are currently targeting international students by pretending to be representatives of the police, Migri, or other authorities. At least some of the call have been made with Google Meet or similar online services. The basic procedure remains the same as in the traditional phone calls.
The basic advice for this kind of situation is simple: if you suspect that a call may be a scam, end the call as soon as possible and verify its authenticity through official channels. It is also recommended to submit a safety report whenever a scam call is encountered.

What to do if you receive a possible scam call:
- Do not share your information. Never give your bank details, online banking credentials, verification codes, or personal information to an unknown caller.
- Stay calm. Scammers often create a sense of urgency, fear, or pressure to make you act quickly.
- End the call. If the call seems suspicious, hang up immediately.
- Verify independently. Contact the authority or organisation using the official phone number from their website.
- Report the incident. Inform HAMK staff and submit a safety report through HAMK’s reporting channel.
- Act quickly if you shared information. Contact your bank immediately, report the incident to the police if necessary, and inform HAMK.
