HAMK Celebrates Pride Week with Rainbow Flagging

All seven campuses of Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) will fly the rainbow flag to celebrate Pride Week and equality from 23-29 June 2025, and during local Pride events in each city.
“It is important for us to participate in Pride celebrations and convey the message of equality and human rights. HAMK campuses have been flying the rainbow flag since 2019,” says HAMK’s President Pertti Puusaari.
Equality work at HAMK is continuously evolving. The sustainability principles defined this spring guide all of HAMK’s operations from a responsibility perspective, and the update of HAMK’s sustainability programme and goals is currently underway. The equality work is coordinated by HAMK’s DEIA group.
“We are a community of over 10,000 people, and we want to ensure that everyone can genuinely feel welcome in our community as their true selves. Actions are needed to eradicate discrimination and inappropriate treatment. Society is not ready as long as everyone is not equal,” states HAMK’s Vice President Heidi Ahokallio-Leppälä.
Pride celebrations will continue in Hämeenlinna on 16 August 2025, with the first local Pride parade in ten years. HAMK will be participating in Hämeenlinna Pride. More details about the event will be provided closer to the date.
