Welcome to See Mustiala Campus’ Cows Run to Pasture 15 May 2025

The cows in Häme University of Applied Sciences’ research- and educational farm in Mustiala campus will be put out to pasture at an event open to the public on 15 May 2025. In the event you can also learn more about agriculture, see other farm animals and a robotic tractor at work.

We are organising an event together with Häme Vocational Institute at Mustiala campus, where cows of our research- and educational farm will be let out to pasture and allowed to graze for the summer. The event starts at 10.00.

We will stream the event on MTK’s Youtube channel, so you can also follow the cows’ joy remotely. The Youtube link will be updated on the HAMK event page.

“Cow grazing is a key factor in promoting animal welfare and preserving biodiversity. Grazing contributes to the well-being of cows by improving muscle condition, hoof health and species-specific herd behaviour. At the same time, grazing maintains and enriches biodiversity,” says Marjukka Mattio, an expert at MTK, The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners

Something to see and experience for all ages

There is plenty more to see on campus on the day of the event:

Currently, we have about 80 cows living on the farm, which includes 185 hectares of arable land. We offer on-campus rural education in Finnish and English, and run annual experiments and trials in collaboration with research, extension services and businesses. Our farm has also been awarded Lighthouse Farm status by TP Organics, an organic network recognised by the European Commission, along with four other European farms.

MTK (The Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners), MTK Häme and MTK Lounais-Häme are supporting the event.
