Mothers Empowered: Building Networks, Finding Opportunities

Moving to a new country is a journey of courage, growth, and connection and for Janani, a HAMK student, mother of two, and active community member, it’s been exactly that. Her story shows how networking can open doors, create friendships, and lead to unexpected opportunities in Finland.
As one of the organizers of the upcoming Mothers Empowered event, Janani is passionate about helping others discover the power of connection — and how one conversation can change everything.
Janani’s Story:
My two-year journey in Finland has been a story of growth, learning, and connection. It has inspired me to share my experiences and highlight the importance of networking. As one of the organizers of the Mothers Empowered event, our main goal is to promote this initiative and emphasize how vital networking is in discovering opportunities in Finland. I arrived in Finland in 2023 with my family as a HAMK student, and now, as a mother of two school-aged kids and nearing the completion of my degree, I can truly see how each step has shaped my path. Over the past two years, I’ve completed my internship at HAMK Arrival team and currently work with HAMK International Services. I am also an active member of MiB Kanta-Häme region. Every milestone in my journey has been built on the foundation of strong and meaningful networks.
Networking is not just about meeting new people, it’s about discovering diverse possibilities, even among those studying or working in similar fields. This diversity is what makes networking so powerful. In just one hour of meaningful interaction, you can learn more about integrating into Finnish society and understanding the working culture than in months of formal study.
Through networking, I’ve gained insights, practical advice, and real-life experiences that have helped me adapt quickly and confidently. It connects you with people from various backgrounds and professions, broadening your perspective and opening doors to new opportunities.
I encourage everyone, especially newcomers, to embrace networking as an essential tool for success in your life. Events like Mothers Empowered foster these meaningful connections, creating supportive spaces where we can grow both personally and professionally.
