In the plot, the effect of different seeding densities on weed incidence and yield will be studied. The highest yield was obtained with the lowest seeding rate.
The payroll has started! Photo taken on 3 July.
Weeds were equally abundant in different areas of the plot, so the seeding density had no effect. Scentless may weed, field blackgrass and field elder grew tall and took over as the pea dried out and sunk lower.

Buffer zone
Along the Riuskanoja river, there is a buffer zone. The area has been used as a pasture for a long time. In the past, pigs grazed the area, and later on, horses.

Cultivation measures

Silage grassland
9.5.2018 Weed control
23.5.2018 Fertilization, 10 tons/ha of cattle manure

23.10.2018 Plowing

17.5.2018 The aerial photo shows the sowing errors. The spring on the seed drill’s ground wheel had been bent, causing the ground wheel to not rotate. During the winter, when bales were retrieved from the edge of the field, the crop was trampled. In the autumn, there were problems sowing the block.
17.5.2018 In places, however, the growth is even.
24.5.2018 The average length of squirrels is 23-27 cm.
1.6.2018 The uncertainty is starting to level off.
1.6.2018The growth of the spike has begun.
8.6.2018There is quite a lot of shade variation in the vegetation
8.6.2018 Wheat is mostly at the flag leaf stage, with some scraps emerging here and there. The growth is 30-35 cm high.
12.6.2018 The aerial photo shows the autumn sowing problems, as well as the compacted field.
20.6.2018On the eastern edge of the block, there is a Scentless mayweed.
20.6.2018 The growth is very shallow, about 20-30 cm.
28.6.2018 Scentless mayweed can be seen.
28.6.2018 The growth is about 50 cm tall.

28.6.2018 The growth is about 50 cm tall.

12.5.2017 Application of liquid manure 10m³/ha (27-5.8-30)
15.5.2017 Fertilization during sowing. Herne Rocket, 300 kg/ha and oats as a support crop 30 kg/ha. Fertilization with Yarabela Suomensalpietar 67 kg/ha (18-0-0.6-2.6 kg/ha)

The field has been treated with MCPA, which limits the use of the crop as feed for dairy cattle. The bales can be fed to beef cattle or heifers.
28.8.2017 Weed control with Envision 4 l/ha + binder
4-5.9.2017 Disc harrowing
6.9.2017 Fertilization during sowing: Winter wheat Ceylon 255 kg/ha and fertilization with YaraBela Suomensalpietar 112 kg/ha (18-0-0.6-2.6 kg/ha)

23.5.2017 The pea has not yet come to the surface, the roots already reach a depth of 10 cm. Pea 23.5. The sprout buds do not yet reach the surface, the average sowing depth was 5 cm.
30.5.2017 Peas have been steadily sprouting, and oats sown as a stover crop have also sprouted. There has been some over sowing and, in addition, seedling establishment has been more efficient due to the tractor tyre. The average number of leaves on the pea was 4. The density of pea seedlings was 99 plants/m², while the average density of oats was 27 plants/m². Seedling rates are close to the target.
30.5.2017 Peas have sprouted on 30.5. The roots reach up to 20 cm above the ground in some places

6.6.2017 The pea root system has continued to strengthen, with the pea now having 3 pairs of leaflets. Oats are at 13 on the Zadoks scale.
6.6.2017 The pea has strengthened its root system, and has grown 3 new leaves. The rootstock of the plant is at the 3-leaf stage, Zadoks 13.
6.6.2017 The vegetation is not yet very green from the air, even if it looks that way from the ground. The green in the area of the red circle was revealed to be powdery mildew.
6.6.2017 There was plenty of ground mustard on the site – this photo is from inside the red circle.
12.6.2017 The pea crop is also growing out of control. However, there are weeds on the parcel.
12.6.2017 Feeding traces of the pea weevil in the pea
12.6.2017 Pea growth has been rapid. The crop shows signs of damage from the pea blight.
12.6.2017 The plot is quite rich in weeds, mainly powdery mildew.
22.6.2017 The previous week’s weed spraying has worked well, the crop is catching up, and there is little room for new weeds.
22.6.2017The development stage of peas.
22.6.2017 Pea has started nitrogen fixation. Bacterial knuckles can be found.

21.7.2017 The height of the pea crop is almost 120cm. The 36 centimetre spraying furrows have almost completely closed. The first flowers have already formed pods on the plant.
21.7.2017 Vegetation
26.7.2017 The stalk of the pea is very slender, and the height of the plant is almost 120. Let’s hope there will be no strike.

9.8.2017 Most of the block has gone on strike. The upper oat-rich area, as well as the driveways, are better preserved.

16.10.2017 Wheat growth rate is 12-14, with a slightly uneven growth habit.
21.8.2017 The shrivelled pea is already almost completely browned.
The peas can still be split with the claw.
4.9.2017 Traces of sludge wagons are still clearly visible.
28.8.2017 Peas were harvested as whole grain silage for baling on 25.8.
Concentrations of whole grain silage pea and oat crops according to the Valio Artturi service.
16.10.2017 The soil has been compacted where bales have been driven into the ground.
9.10.2017 Wheat has a growth rate of 12-13 (Zadoks).
9.10.2017 Apart from pea, there are hardly any other weeds to be found on the plot. Peas compete for light and space in the autumn, but die during the winter.
9.10.2017 The angle of view matters; from above the wheat spikes do not yet cover the ground.
2.10.2017 Stand growth rate 11-13 (Zadoks). Straw depressions are weaker.
2.10.2017 Traces of feeding in squirrels.
25.9.2017 Wheat is budded, with a growth rate of 11-12 (Zadoks). There is a slight unevenness in the crop, with spring silt traces showing as weaker growth.
User comments25.9.2017 The peas that fell to the ground when harvesting whole grain silage have also germinated.
11.9.2017 After sowing, there has been enough rain, too much of it.
11.9.2017 In the spring, the sludge tanker did not remove the depressions caused by the sludge tanker. Water was standing in the plot, both in the disc mulch layer (0-5 cm) and above the ploughing furrow (25 cm), below the furrow and between the areas was drier.
11.9.2017 While digging, water “burst” above the plough bed.
