Preparations for the City Centre Campus architectural competition are underway – a partner has been selected to handle the sale of the Visamäki premises

Plans to relocate the Hämeenlinna University Centre at Visamäki to the centre of Hämeenlinna are progressing with preparations for an architectural competition. A condition of the campus relocation is the sale of the existing premises in Visamäki, for which Reagle Oy has been appointed as an adviser.
Häme University of Applied Sciences and the City of Hämeenlinna are preparing an architectural competition aimed at securing the highest-quality, most cost-effective and architecturally successful solution for the city centre campus. Five candidates will be selected for the invited competition through public procurement. The Finnish Association of Architects SAFA will assist in drafting the competition programme and will appoint its representative to the jury.
“Our goal is to launch the architectural competition as quickly as possible, at the latest before the turn of the year,” said Tuomas Salonen, HAMKin Director of Real Estate Development.
Based on the reference plan produced as a result of the architectural competition, a zoning plan amendment can be initiated. The reference plan examines the building, the use of the plot, and the public areas. The reference plan is prepared in cooperation with the City of Hämeenlinna so that responsibility for the public areas lies with the city and the rest with HAMK.
Reagle is conducting a preliminary study into the sale of the buildings in Visamäki
The realization of the city center campus is conditional on the sale of the premises located at HAMK’s Visamäki. The Nordic real estate advisor Reagle Oy has been appointed as the sales advisor. The company has experience in carrying out similar sales processes with public-sector actors as well.
The aim is to provide HAMK’s management and board with a decision-ready understanding of what package, on what terms and on what timetable the Visamäki building stock could be sold. Reaglen’s report will set out, among other things, the current condition of the buildings, development potential, a market overview of potential buyers, alternative courses of action, price estimates, key risks and recommendations for further measures.
The assignment’s constraints include, among other things, that at least the C, D, N and S buildings are sold, but the review extends to the entire building stock.
Work began in September 2026 and will be completed no later than January 2027.
