The Campus Aqua project brings together the strong water expertise of the Kanta-Häme region to promote sustainable water protection and adaptation to climate change. In collaboration with education, research, businesses, and communities, the project develops practical solutions for water management, strengthens regional resilience, and creates a sustainable foundation for both the environment and society.

Within the Campus Aqua project, we promote sustainable water protection as part of climate change adaptation by strengthening water resource management and society’s capacity to respond to extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and fluctuations in precipitation. The project brings together Kanta-Häme’s strong water expertise and builds a collaborative Campus Aqua network that integrates the knowledge of education, research, industry, and the third sector.

The project is structured around five thematic areas: water management, flood protection, invasive species, landscape management, and communication as a cross-cutting theme. Each main theme involves close cooperation with regional water-sector businesses. The Campus Aqua network produces and disseminates easily applicable knowledge and implements concrete measures that address regional needs. Some of these measures are carried out as student projects in cooperation with educational institutions.

The project’s impacts range from improving environmental conditions and supporting climate change adaptation to generating economic benefits: more efficient water and nutrient management, new service opportunities, and increased recreational use and attractiveness of the region all contribute to sustainable regional development.
