Large-Scale Reuse of Building Components: Assessment of Conditions, Value Chain, and Process
Duration1.5.2024-30.10.2025
PartnersCity of Forssa
Häme University of Applied Sciences
FundersEuropean Union: Low-carbon Built Environment Programme
BudgetThe total budget of the project is 90,000 euros, of which the City of Forssa and HAMK share a self-financing portion of 27,000 euros.

We are developing a new value chain for the reuse of building components in Forssa, with the goal of creating a commercially sustainable and large-scale model to support the circular economy. In collaboration with various stakeholders, we are bringing solutions to the market that promote low-carbon construction and sustainable development.

Our goal is to create a new value chain for the large-scale reuse of building components while promoting sustainable and low-carbon construction. The City of Forssa will serve as a testing ground where we develop a model that could serve as an example both nationally and internationally. We will assess the requirements for storage, validation, logistics, and trading, and build a system based on circular economy principles that meets the growing demand. In collaboration with Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) and industry stakeholders, we will bring together experts and companies to create concrete solutions to support low-carbon construction.

The project work packages will gather the necessary information on the prerequisites for reuse, analyze data as a basis for development, and conduct comprehensive stakeholder discussions for the co-development of the model.

Target group

The target audience includes stakeholders in the construction industry, such as municipalities, developers, designers, construction companies, and logistics firms.

Operating area

The area of operation is the Forssa region, but the project can also serve the broader Southern Finland area and potentially international regions.
