The aim of the Ypäjä wetland project is to improve the water quality of the Loimijoki River. We are participating in the implementation of a water protection wetland designed to reduce nutrient loading from the Loimijoki catchment area.

We contribute expertise in nature-based solutions to the project. Water quality monitoring is carried out before the construction of the wetland, during construction, and after completion. The samples are analyzed in our new laboratory.

The wetland will be built at the Equine College located in Ypäjä. Its purpose is to regulate water flow and thereby prevent sediment and nutrient loads from the Equine College area from entering the Loimijoki River. In addition, the wetland will serve as a good demonstration site, showcasing solutions that can be implemented to improve water quality and biodiversity. As such, it may encourage other landowners to undertake similar measures.

During the project, public events will be organized, offering everyone interested the opportunity to learn about the wetland construction process. The project is coordinated by the The Water Protection Association of the River Kokemäenjoki, with Ypäjä Equine College and Häme University of Applied Sciences as project partners.
