Promoting cooperation between VET and the industry in Tanzania

We have worked to strengthen the vocational education and training (VET) in Tanzania to increase it’s responsiveness to labour market needs and the employability of the graduates.
Our main objective is to strengthen public-private cooperation, and to build the capacity of vocational education and training (VET) providers and teachers. We aim to achieve this by improving the quality and responsiveness of VET to economic and social developments In Tanzania. During the project so far we have co-developed a new training programme, building teacher capacity, and promoting digital and entrepreneurial skills.
Promoting Digital & Entrepreneurial Skills of VET Teachers in Tanzania
Our European project partners Centro San Viator and 3DBear designed a training programme on entrepreneurship digital solutions, and digital pedagogy. The training programme is based on the Tanzanian labour market and the VET professionals’ needs. VET teachers and entrepreneurs were interviewed, and together with them the blended training courses were created and implemented. The courses combined face-to-face and online training with an innovative digital approach.
The pilot group of teachers was recruited by Teacher Training College in Morogoro (MVTTC), which is the only official vocational teachers’ training college on Tanzania mainland. During the training, the TVET teachers not only learned about how to promote starting a business itself, but also how to use digital solutions for entrepreneurship training. We used participatory methods, including co-design and validation workshops, and adaptation of the programme according to the pilot trainees’ feedback. Created simulations and other digital solutions were incorporated into MVTTC’s Moodle platform to be used in teacher training.
Benchmarking the Finnish practices
In May we also organised a midterm seminar and benchmarking visit to Finland for our Tanzanian partners. We wanted to strengthen the European dimension of the project and provide a possibility to our partners to learn from Finnish practices for benchmarking purposes. Our project team visited, among others, entrepreneurship organizations, industry, VET schools, and Finnish National Agency for Education.

The visit was regarded as successful and gave a lot of food for thought. As of now, we are happy and confident to encounter the future challenges with this great team!
