Resignation from studies

Please consider your resignation carefully

Not everything always goes according to plan, so you might be considering ending your studies and giving up your right to study. Please discuss with your guidance counsellor before making a final decision. They may be able to suggest different options that suit your situation, such as the possibility to use your right to be absent.

When you resign from your studies, you give up your right to study. The resignation must be submitted using the electronic resignation announcement. If your situation changes later and you would like to continue your studies, you are warmly welcome to apply again to your incomplete degree or to something new! At the end of this page, you will find various options.

How do I resign from HAMK?

1. Fill in the electronic Resignation Announcement

  • Please make sure you have discussed with your guidance counsellor before completing the form!
  • Resignation is always done in writing by completing the electronic Resignation Announcement (Haka login required).
  • If you cannot log in because your user account is no longer active, please reactivate your account via HAMK’s identification service.
  • The tuition fee will not be refunded for the semester running on the day of the resignation.

2. Resignation date

  • Your right to study ends on the date you submit your resignation announcement.
  • The resignation date cannot be retroactive.
  • Your HAMK user account remains active for 28 days after the resignation.

3. Transcript of records and certificate of resignation

  • Once your resignation announcement has been processed, you will receive links by email to download your transcript of records and certificate of resignation.
  • You can also download your transcript of records from Pakki before resigning or while your user account remains active.

Remember also

If you have a separate key card, remember to return it! If the key card is not returned, you will be charged for it. You can ask the campus coordinators for more detailed instructions on returning the key card — you can find their contact details on this page. (Section How to get a key card.)

You can find the library’s website here. When your right to study ends, your library card and data will be deleted automatically if you have no fees or loans. If you wish to continue as a library customer, please notify the library.

If you have been registered as present even for one day of the semester, you are required to pay the FSHS health care fee to Kela. You are entitled to use FSHS services until the end of that semester. Read more about student health care.

Hopefully we’ll meet again!

If you wish, you can apply again later to complete your unfinished degree. If you have completed enough credits, instead of going through the Joint or Direct application and starting from year one, you can apply on the basis of your incomplete higher education degree. If you feel you chose the wrong field entirely and want to try something completely different, HAMK’s Open University of Applied Sciences offers you an easy chance to study subjects that interest you. Through the Open UAS, you can also become a degree student via a separate application route.
