Supporting vocational teachers’ continuous professional development in Mozambique

Mozambique faces significant challenges in vocational education and employment. Despite a predominantly young population, high unemployment rates and limited labor market opportunities hinder economic growth.

Vocational education plays a critical role in equipping the workforce with relevant skills, yet it remains underdeveloped and often overlooked. Vocational education teachers play a critical role, as they are the main vehicle for the change in equipping the new generations of youth to enter the labor market.

We aim to address the challenges of low level of VET (Vocational education and training)-Industry collaboration, gender equality, and the lack of inclusion in the labour market, and low digital transformation by skilling VET teachers. To overcome the slow pace of official VET teacher education, we will introduce possibilities for VET Teachers’ Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in the form of short courses.

Together with five partners we will co-create five short courses that focus on:

We will pilot these courses with VET teachers working in VET centers, and the final contents are modified according to the feedback received. The CDP courses are a supplementary resource for undertrained VET teachers. By the end of the project, each Mozambican partner will have an organizational handbook on how they can replicate similar CPDs in the future for wider impact using sustainable pedagogical approaches.

Our desired impact will be the better employability of the VET graduates and smooth and inclusive transition of skilled youth from VET to the labour market. The project fosters the employability of the youth and economic growth in the country. Digitalisation enforces digital transformation and increases the geographical disparities in the access to education. By addressing gender equality and social inclusion we promote a more just society in Mozambique.
