RUN-EU Super Week

HAMK is organising RUN European University events on 25 – 29 October 2021 for RUN-EU staff members and students.

This RUN-EU Super Week consists of the FASA Pedagogical Development Programme (PDP) and Design Factory Bootcamp (DFB) for RUN staff members and an intensive week for students participating in the SAP “How to navigate through unfamiliar contexts”. Participants of PDP and DFB will find practical information on this website. More information about the SAP can be found here.

Drink Tap Water

Finnish tap water is not only safe to drink straight from the tap, but it’s also one of the best in the world.  

Suitable outdoor clothing & footwear for the autumn 

It would be advisable to bring along a windbreaker and/or raincoat as it tends to be windy & rains quite a bit in October in Finland.  

As the evenings can get a bit chilly, please remember to have mittens or gloves with you.

In the Hämeenlinna City Centre

We have received two offers from hotels in the city centre. The hotels are close to each other and we will organize transportation from the hotel to campus.

Hotel Emilia Hämeenlinna:

Prices includes the breakfast, WiFi and sauna from Tuesday to Thursday.

Important information regarding arrival in Finland

Arrival in Finland and FINENTRY service

You have to check the restrictions and conditions on entry to Finland on the Finnish Border Guard’s website. At the latest two weeks before your arrival in Finland, you need to complete the FINENTRY survey and register to the FINENTRY service. Through the service you will receive personalised instructions on what actions you need to take when you arrive in Finland. If – based on the result of the FINENTRY survey – you are required to take the COVID-19 test in Finland after your arrival, please inform immediately superweek@hamk.fi.

Please remember that you have to follow all current health safety regulations: maintain adequate safety distances, wash your hands and use a face mask. Please check here for further information: Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare.

Traveling to Hämeenlinna

RUN-EU Super Week takes place at the Hämeenlinna University Centre. Hämeenlinna University Centre is the largest of HAMK’s campuses and the campus is located 2 km from the Hämeenlinna city centre.

From the Helsinki Airport you can take a bus or a train to Hämeenlinna. Please see more information here.

 

We offer free bus rides for you – just hop in!

We have arranged daily Super Week transportation between Hämeenlinna city center hotels to HAMK Design Factory, Hämeenlinna University Center. Our campus is located 2km from the Hämeenlinna city center. This transportation is free of charge for Super Week participants.

A light yellow bus with “REISSURUOTI” taping on both sides is there for you and there is a Super Week sign on the windshield. Please be aware that the bus is stopping at an exact address which is announced right after the hotel name. There are hotels where the bus is not able to stop right in front of the door. Be at the pick-up spot well in advance, the bus is only stopping for pick-up.

You can purchase single tickets with cash from the bus driver, the adult fee is 3,40€. When buying a ticket from the driver, please have a small change (preferably exact change) to pay for your fare. Drivers do not have to accept notes larger than 20 euros. Debit and credit cards are not accepted on buses.

Below you can find information about travel options in Hämeenlinna.

It is a 250-meter walk from the train station to Sokos hotel Vaakuna so there is no need for transportation. It is a 1,5 km walk from the train station to the Hämeenlinna city center where you can find Hotel Emilia and Hotel Scandic. You can walk the journey with a beautiful lake and castle view or take a taxi to the city center. A little bit further is a Hostel Naurava Kulkuri which is 2,6 km away from the train station. You can walk this journey or take a taxi from the train station. You can usually find taxis in front of the Hämeenlinna train station.

Train station

Remember to buy a ticket before going to the train from a ticket vending machine or online. You can find schedules and buy tickets from the VR website. Please notice that you have to change trains in Tikkurila when coming or going to the airport.

Long-distance bus services

Due to the Covid situation, the bus services between Hämeenlinna and Helsinki Vantaa airport are limited. There are only a few shifts going early in the morning and late evening. You can find the schedule from the Matkahuolto website.

At Evo, Forssa, Lepaa, Mustiala, Riihimäki, and Valkeakoski, the library assistant can help you out with any library matter through Libgo: video and audio work in both directions.
You can reach the library assistant Mon-Fri 9.30 am-12 noon and 1 pm-3 pm by pressing the “Customer service” -button on the info screen in the library facilities. The button makes a call to the library assistant, for whom it may take a few minutes to connect to Libgo.
