Häme Foundation for Professional Higher Education and Research has awarded research grants.

The Board of the Häme Foundation for Professional Higher Education and Research awarded two Young researcher grants of 5 000 euros, and one Innovations that create work, facilitate everyday life and solve social problems grant of 3 000 euros.

Shekhar Silwal: Shear Resistance of Sandwich Panels

An experimental and numerical investigation on the shear properties of sandwich panels will be carried out in this research work which aims to develop a Eurocode compatible solution to determine the shear strength and shear modulus of a sandwich panel. The project is conducted in collaboration with HAMK Tech, Tampere University and Ruukki.

Marika Ahonen: Learning to calm with speech through a simulation game: The effect of the game on the ability to encounter a challenging patient

The Master’s thesis in education examines and describes the learning and competence of Häme University of Applied Sciences’ nursing students in encountering challenging patient behavior and calming speech in a simulation game. The aim of the study is to provide information on how game scenarios can be utilized in learning and health education. The information obtained can be used in the development of both health simulation games and education.

Innovations that create work, facilitate everyday life and solve social problems -grant, 3 000 euros

Olli Koskela, Iivari Kunttu and Ilpo Pölönen research group: Water consumption meter

Although the water demand of cattle has been studied quite extensively, individual water intake is still rarely measured. The research develops equipment suitable for the continuous monitoring of the number of plots per animal, the continuous individual placement behavior of which can be used to monitor welfare at the individual and livestock level. Water intake information may also be useful in assessing the feed performance of cows.
