HAMK Selects Olla Architecture as the Architect for the new Riihimäki Campus

Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK) is moving forward with the planning of the new Station Campus in Riihimäki. Through a competitive bidding process, the architectural firm selected for the project is Olla Architecture. A draft amendment to the local detailed plan for the campus area is currently open for public review and comments until 24 March 2026.

HAMK’s Riihimäki campus will relocate from Kaartokatu to the former Matkakeskus premises. Helsinki-based Olla Architechture has been chosen to plan the necessary renovations for the new campus buildings.

“We were looking for an architectural team with an experienced lead designer who can build on the strengths of the location and create an attractive, accessible campus. Our goal is to design adaptable and flexible spaces that support teaching, research, and our collaborative way of learning,” says Tuomas Salonen, HAMK’s Director of Real Estate Development.

Planning phase underway – facilities expected to open in 2028

The planning phase of the Riihimäki campus project is expected to be completed during 2026. Renovations are scheduled for 2027, and according to current estimates, HAMK will begin moving from Kaartokatu to the new campus in early 2028.

“Next, together with users, we will prepare the space programme, which defines the types of facilities needed on the new campus and their key characteristics. We will also launch procurement process for the other designers required for the project,” Salonen adds

Even though the main building renovations are still in the planning phase, the campus area is already in partial use. Bettermakers Studio, located at street level on Eteläinen Asemakatu, is open and enables hands-on co-development of the future Station Campus.

Local detailed plan under review

HAMK’s move to the station area requires updates to the local detailed plan. The draft amendment is available for public viewing 23 February – 24 March 2026 on the City of Riihimäki website and  at the Office of the Transport Authority (Eteläinen Asemakatu 4, 3rd floor).
