City Centre Campus at Hämeenlinna: City Council Approves Funding

Hämeenlinna City Council approved at its meeting on 8 June 2026 the appropriations related to the implementation agreement for Häme University of Applied Sciences’ city-centre campus for inclusion in the city’s budget.
The City Council decided to allocate funds corresponding to the city’s share of the project’s financing for the construction years, in accordance with the implementation agreement. The financing consists of a direct grant of 19.7 million euros and an equity contribution of 10.3 million euros, which will be provided as an equity loan.
For Häme University of Applied Sciences, the decision means that the project’s planning and the sale of the Visamäki campus buildings can now begin in earnest.
“I would like to thank the City Council for its bold decision and forward-looking approach. The city centre campus will enhance the appeal of both HAMK and Hämeenlinna. It is important for us to remain an attractive, high-quality institution of higher education in the decades to come,” says Vice President Heidi Ahokallio-Leppälä.
City Council Chair Jari Koskinen is very pleased with the council’s decision.
“The decision is significant both for the city’s development and for HAMK’s future. This is a long-term investment and a bold commitment to Hämeenlinna’s future,” says Koskinen.
