Developing pedagogical leadership in Latin America

As HAMK is applying innovative and collaborative approaches to teaching and learning, we had the opportunity to share how we are engaging with different stakeholders and sectors in the society to EMBRACE project partners.

EMBRACE is a collaborative project funded by the Erasmus+ CBHE programme that aims to develop pedagogical leadership in higher education institutions in Latin America. The project involves 7 partner institutions from Brazil, Colombia, Portugal, and Finland. The main objective of the project is to enhance the quality and relevance of higher education in Latin America by developing pedagogical competences and practices of teachers and managers and including the world of work.

“In my institution this project can begin a bigger change of pedagogical methodology”

André Romero da Silva, Dean of Federal Institute of Espirito Santo (IFES)

As part of the project activities, a group of 21 high-level university leaders from the partner institutions visited HAMK from 6 to 11 November 2023. The purpose of the visit was to learn from HAMK’s experience and expertise in developing pedagogical leadership at the organizational, regional, and systemic levels. The visit also provided an opportunity for networking and exchanging ideas among the participants and HAMK staff. The project partners also had the opportunity to demonstrate how the EMBRACE project is working towards developing digital competences and pedagogical leadership in Latin America.

During the week the participants were able to hear several high-level presentations from different Finnish educational experts including HAMKs Vice-Rector Dr. Heidi Ahokallio-Leppälä as well as visit Kauriala upper secondary school. The visit was a valuable and enriching experience for all the participants, who gained new insights and perspectives on pedagogical leadership and innovation. The visit also strengthened the collaboration and trust among the partner institutions and created a common vision for the future of the EMBRACE project.

“I think this is a very important project for us because educators around the world have big challenges right now. The world is changing, and education has to change at the same pace. Being able to share practices with people from different countries is a good opportunity”

Felipe Baena Botero, Sectional Rector of Fundación Universitaria del Área Andina (Areandina)
