Processes in Agricultural Soil as a Basis for Focused Carbon Sequestration

Project information
Project | Processes in Agricultural Soil as a Basis for Focused Carbon Sequestration (Hiiletin) |
Duration | 1.3.2021-31.12.2023 |
Partners | Natural Resources Institute Finland (main coordinator), Häme University of Applied Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, University of Helsinki, ProAgria, ProAgria Etelä-Suomi, Soilfood Ltd, Finnish Environment Institute |
Funders | The project is part of the “Catch the Carbon” climate action framework for the land use sector, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in spring 2020. |
The Processes in Agricultural Soil as a Basis for Targeting Carbon Sequestration Efforts (HiiletIn) project promotes the 2035 carbon neutrality goal by generating knowledge about methods that consider soil properties to increase organic matter—and thus carbon—in the soil while reducing carbon loss.
The project provides an assessment of the carbon sequestration potential of mineral soils and an analysis of cost-effective ways to enhance soil’s carbon sequestration capacity.
