TechMetal project assesses the ability of the metal and manufacturing industries in the Kanta-Häme region to utilise local material flows, develop circular economy solutions, and improve security of supply.
Global disruptions in supply chains have demonstrated how important it is to secure the availability of metals even in crisis situations. Locally collected waste and by-product metals provide the Kanta-Häme region with a significant opportunity to reduce dependence on imported raw materials and to increase the resilience of local industries. Additive manufacturing makes it possible to produce and repair components locally, efficiently and flexibly, strengthening supply resilience and minimizing production downtime.
In TechMetal – Advanced technologies to support security of supply project, we examine the current state of companies’ side streams, metal waste, and metal powders in the region, as well as their potential uses. We are creating a solid knowledge base to identify key development areas and create concrete solutions to strengthen security of supply. In the project we deliver practical expertise in materials and additive manufacturing to companies, making it easier to take new technologies into use and to build strong partnerships within the sector. This enables more resource-efficient production, strengthens market competitiveness, and supports the green transition while unlocking new opportunities for business development and innovation.
The project partner Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) provides specialised knowledge in laser powder bed fusion–based repair and coating technologies, as well as supporting imaging and measurement technologies.
Target group
The project targets metal industry and manufacturing companies operating in the Kanta-Häme region, SMEs and start-ups, as well as regional actors in the defence industry.
