Steel cladding systems for stabilization of steel buildings in fire (STABFI)

It has been shown in a recent project that considerable savings can be achieved for structural members, columns, beams and trusses, if sandwich panels and trapezoidal sheeting are used for stabilizing the whole structure, compared to the case when stability is ensured by other means.  The question addressed here is: can we achieve similar savings in fire due to this stabilizing effect? The project offers innovation of using it also during fire, which is expected to lead to considerable savings in costs and carbon emissions for steel structures in competition against other materials.

HAMK is responsible for WP 6: Stabilization of entire building in fire. WP6 has four deliverables:

  1. Stabilization of distinct members at ambient temperature (TAU & HAMK);
  2. Stabilization of entire building at ambient temperature (TAU);
  3. Stabilization of distinct members in fire (HAMK);
  4. Stabilization of entire buildings in fire (HAMK).

The project duration is 3 years (1.7.2017 – 30.6.2020).
