Sustainability Report 2025 describes activities from the perspective of the environment and people

HAMK’s sustainability report details, among other things, the metrics and targets related to social and environmental responsibility and good governance, as well as the progress of sustainability efforts.

HAMK has published its sustainability report for 2025. It outlines HAMK’s work on responsibility and sustainability as well as its impacts. HAMK has chosen (along with several other universities of applied sciences) to voluntarily publish a report in accordance with the EU sustainability standard. Currently, only very large companies are required by law to conduct such comprehensive sustainability reporting. The report publishes, among other things, indicators and targets for social and environmental responsibility, good governance, and the progress of sustainability efforts.

HAMK’s sustainability work is guided by its principles of responsibility and the responsibility programme. These cover environmental and social responsibility, good governance and the impact of education and RDI (research, development, and innovation) activities. Stakeholders also play an important role in defining HAMK’s sustainability work and the key areas for development.

Good governance and risk management are part of all operations. In 2025, ethical guidelines, rules of conduct, safer space principles, and channels for reporting harassment and discrimination were established.

Social responsibility focuses on equity, well-being, safety, and inclusion. Workshops and events were organised around these themes in 2025, and community guidance and well-being mentor activities were strengthened.

Environmental responsibility centres on energy management, resource wisdom, and the circular economy. HAMK’s largest sources of emissions are properties, procurement, and travel. Around 61% of the energy used is renewable. In 2025, solutions for charging electric cars were renewed, and environmental impact monitoring for procurement was piloted.

HAMK’s impact is created through education and applied research. Sustainability competencies has been included in alldegree programmes, and most UAS curricula feature a compulsory courseon sustainable development. In RDI activities, over 60% of project budgets are allocated to projects promoting sustainability.

The sustainability report will be presented to the staff across all campuses during the spring.
