Credits and International Experiences – RUN European University for HAMK Students
Did you know that, as a HAMK student, you can apply for international study opportunities and traineeships and become part of an international community through RUN European University? The opportunities suit a wide range of life situations and study paths. For example, some courses are offered entirely online, while others combine online study with a short study week in another European country.
Make International Experience Part of Your Degree
RUN European University brings together ten higher education institutions from nine European countries. For HAMK degree students, this means an opportunity to complement their expertise with international study opportunities in which students and teachers from different fields learn together across Europe.
RUN-EU studies broaden your expertise, strengthen your language and communication skills, and provide experience of multidisciplinary and multicultural collaboration. Most of the study opportunities can be included in your degree as credits, and you will receive a certificate for completed courses. Please discuss how the studies fit into your personal study plan with your study counsellor.
What Opportunities Does RUN-EU Offer?
- Short study programmes: RUN-EU offers learning opportunities that combine online lectures with a study week at one of the RUN-EU partner universities. Students can apply for a grant for travel and accommodation expenses. Short and flexible programmes may also suit students for whom a long-term exchange is not possible. These programmes are often called Short Advanced Programmes (SAPs) and Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs).
- Online studies: As a HAMK student, you can complete fully online courses offered by RUN-EU. These are often referred to as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL).
- Exchange opportunities in Europe: HAMK students can complete a student exchange lasting several months at a RUN-EU partner institution. Students can apply for a grant for exchange studies.
- International networking: Through RUN-EU, you can apply for traineeships and participate in multidisciplinary networking events organised annually.
- Student engagement: Every RUN-EU university has a Student Council. Student members can contribute to developing the RUN-EU community at their own institution or across RUN European University. Applications for council membership are organised annually.
- RUN-EU’s professional doctorate pathway: RUN-EU’s doctoral education combines theoretical learning with practical research through multidisciplinary, working-life-oriented collaboration. Doctoral students address practical challenges together with companies and receive supervision from both higher education institutions and working life. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree and have a research plan connected to HAMK’s research. Read more on the HAMK website.

Welcome to RUN-EU Day on 22 October
Come and discover RUN European University and the opportunities it offers at Hämeenlinna University Centre on Thursday, 22 October, from 10:00 to 13:00. The programme will include, for example, information stands on traineeship and exchange opportunities, doctoral education and research, as well as information for those interested in entrepreneurship.
Get-to-together for students will be held from 16:00 to 19:00, featuring games, opportunities to meet new people and refreshments. A warm welcome!
