We develop smart technological solutions for a more resource-efficient and sustainable society. Our research combines digitalisation with strong expertise in technology and materials to advance the sustainable built environment, industry, and the bio- and circular economy.
We focus on applied research and actions that are ambitious, yet concrete and relevant in practice. We conduct research together with companies and other partners, developing solutions for areas such as sustainable construction, smart manufacturing, robotics, energy systems, bio-based materials, the use of digital technologies, and future learning environments. Our goal is to create practical solutions that promote environmental sustainability and enable new business opportunities.
Our applied research brings together experts from different fields. We make use of data analytics, machine learning, IoT technologies, and versatile laboratory environments. We are transforming the built environment sector with sustainable innovations and practices that reduce environmental impacts, support climate change adaptation and create new sustainable business.

We strengthen human capabilities through modern technology to address changes in the social, economic, technological, and ecological living environment.
Capacity for future change
We develop solutions that strengthen anticipation and accelerate adaptation. We focus on analysing the current situation, setting goals and designing functional solutions together with those affected by the change.
Future learning environments
We develop solutions, practices and approaches that promote the development and well-being of teachers and organisational staff, support skills management and use new technologies to support learning.
Sustainable Ecosystems and Bioeconomy Solutions
We study the biological processes of soil and their connection to soil structure as well as carbon and nutrient cycling. In addition, we develop digital solutions that help assess the impacts of different measures on soil health, carbon sequestration, and the conservation of biodiversity.
