Path student, welcome to HAMK!
As a new path student, you will find information on this page to help you get off to a smooth start with your studies. Teaching generally takes place together with the cohort of degree students who are starting, so you will quickly become part of our higher education community.
How to start your studies as a path student – remember five things
Please note that Study Path studies do not make you eligible for a residence permit in Finland. To start Study Path studies, you must have a Finnish personal identity code.
When you have been accepted as a path student, you will receive a payment link by email through which you can pay for the studies. Check your email (including your spam folder) once you have been notified of your acceptance as a path student. The payment link is valid for 3 days. Paying for the studies confirms your study place!
The payment service provider is Paytrail. Payment methods include online banking for Finnish banks, card payment, MobilePay and Collector invoice and instalment payment.
If necessary, you can request further information from HAMK Student Services (studyservices@hamk.fi)
You will receive your username and password once you have activated your username and enabled two‑factor authentication. You will be notified by email when you can activate your username.
When you’ve activated your HAMK username, sign in to HAMK’s M365 environment, where you’ll find all Microsoft tools. It is important that you activate your Outlook email, as messages related to your studies will be sent there. Please note that we will no longer send messages to your personal email!
Remember to sign in to your new student email a few days before your studies begin to check whether you have received any additional instructions for starting your studies.
Which username do I use to sign in?
You can sign in to all HAMK services, such as your email and other M365 services, using either your short or long username together with the password you created.
- The short username is written in the form username12345.
- The long username is written in the form username12345@student.hamk.fi.
When you sign in, the sign-in window will indicate which username you should use.
Starter Kit of Digital Skills will help you to start using HAMK online tools, equipment, environments and methods used in higher education studies. You can start completing the Digital Starter Kit after you have activated your HAMK user ID.
Log in to Learn‑Moodle using the link below and sign in via the HAMK-login link at the top. Then select the Search link at the top and search for the Starter Kit of Digital Skills (2026–2027). The enrolment key is Digistarter-26
NOTE! MASTER’S DEGREE STUDENT (YAMK)
As a Master’s degree student, you do not need to complete the Digital Starter Kit competence badges. It is sufficient that you familiarise yourself with HAMK’s systems so that you know how to use them. However, please go through Section 2: Student’s digital core services especially carefully.
The Starter Kit of Digital Skills consists of 14 parts. Before starting your studies, we recommend completing at least parts 1–6. Also follow the guidance for your field of study about which parts are compulsory and what their completion timetable is.
When you see this symbol ⬡ it indicates that a competence badge can be earned for the section. Remember to activate any competence badges you have earned.
You can find the start date, classroom and timetable for your studies in the list below this section. Please read the instructions relating to your course carefully.
Welcome among the Bettermakers!
- All students must have their own laptop.
- The laptop’s operating system should be Windows (64-bit), as the professional applications used at HAMK are Windows programmes. In most study programmes, students need to install software on their own computers that is only available for Windows machines.
- In addition to your computer you will need headphones (for watching videos) and an external mouse (to make using applications easier), and a webcam for taking remote exams.
- The computer is connected to a data projector with an HDMI cable, so ensure your computer has an HDMI port (type A) or obtain a suitable HDMI adapter (type A) if necessary.
- You can study using a macOS computer, but only in a few programmes are applications available for macOS sufficient. Examples include teacher education and social and health care programmes.

A smooth study experience
Tuudo is a versatile mobile app for students that allows you to, for example, register for courses, track your accumulated credits, book study spaces, view timetables, menus or campus maps. With Tuudo you can manage library matters and read important announcements and news related to your studies.
Get started with Tuudo:
- Download Tuudo from your app store.
- Open the app and select HAMK from the list.
- Select “Sign in with your institution credentials”.
- Sign in with your username and password. Use the short username format (letters and numbers), for example x1234@student.hamk.fi.
If you have technical problems with Tuudo, email vie@hamk.fi for assistance.
As a higher education student you are responsible for progressing with your studies. However, you will receive guidance and support when you need it. Whether your question relates to study planning, well‑being, coping, or even finding library materials, don’t hesitate to ask for help! On the Study Guidance page you’ll find a summary of who to contact about different matters.
At HAMK we offer a range of support measures to help with your studies. For example, various learning difficulties entitle a student to necessary individual arrangements.
As a pathway student you will receive an electronic pathway student card via the Slice app. The green pathway student card gives you access to all other benefits, but it does not entitle you to student discounts from VR or Matkahuolto, nor to Kela meal support. However, with the card you can get a meal in HAMK’s student restaurants at the reduced staff rate.
As a pathway student you can also join the student union HAMKO.
HAMK’s student communication channels share news and announcements about studies, student life and day-to-day student matters. To ensure you don’t miss anything important, regularly follow HAMK’s official communication channels.

Transition from path student to degree student
After completing the path studies, you can apply to enrol as a degree student through the separate application. Please note that modules and study units completed at the Open UAS generally need to have been passed with good grades. (For the International Business programme, the average grade of accepted completed studies must be at least 3.0.)
