Hyvää Eurooppa-päivää! Happy Europe Day!

Today 9 May is Europe Day, which is the day to celebrate European peace and unity. Students in higher education have an important role in contributing European cooperation and stability through the Erasmus+ programme. With the help of Erasmus+ funding students can study or work in Europe and improve their international competence. International networks created during studies are the basis in creating European peace project as well as the students' own career path.

This spring has turned HAMK's international student exchange plans upside down. All international mobilities have been cancelled and HAMK has called all exchange students back home due to the coronavirus situation.
Most of the returned exchange students are continuing exchange studies online from Finland, but we also offer new ways of internationalisation for our students, such as Recent Graduate's Work Placements in Europe or Short Student Exchanges to be completed flexibly when the situation gets better. This spring has not been easy, but we are happy that our exchange students came back safely and have been taken care of and that there will be new opportunities in the future.
This photo is taken by HAMK student Oskari Nousiainen, who studied in Malaysia and continues his exchange studies now online from home.

Esittelyssä kuukauden vaihtari! Kuukauden vaihtari on HAMKin tutkinto-opiskelija, joka opiskelee tai on työharjoittelussa ulkomailla. Helmikuun kuukauden vaihtari on sosiaalityön opiskelija Ella! ”Teen harjoitteluvaihtoani Australian Brisbanessa. Harjoittelupaikkani on Finncare, joka tuottaa palveluasumista suomalaisille ikäihmisille. Valitsin Finncaren, koska sosionomin rooli ikäihmisten kanssa tehtävän työn parissa kiinnostaa. Tulin Australiaan Singaporen kautta, jossa vietin 3 päivää.
Vinkkini vaihtoon lähtöä miettiville on: Lähde! Varmasti tulee olemaan yksi parhaimmista päätöksistä, joita itseäsi kohtaan teet.”
Ellan elämää Australiassa voit myös seurata Instagram-tilillä @ellaustraliassa.

Presenting the Exchange Student of the Month! Exchange student of the month is HAMK’s degree student studying or completing a work placement abroad. February’s exchange student of the month is Social Services student Ella! ”I am completing my work placement in Brisbane, Australia. My work placement is at Finncare, which offers assisted living for Finnish elderly. I wanted to work at Finncare, because I find working with elderly as a Bachelor of Social Services interesting. I came to Australia through Singapore, where I spent 3 days. Before the traineeship I had a 3 week holiday in Sydney, Byron Bay and Brisbane. Most rewarding experience has been getting to know new cultures and people. I have enjoyed my time here in Australia and especially surprizing I find the positivity and the helpful attitude of people.
My tip to all students considering exchange is: Go! It will be one of the best decisions you will make.

HAMK Christmas Calendar 24.12. 🎄

Name: Abdul Fahad Bhuiyan
Nationality: Bangladeshi
Degree Program: Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology

Eid-al-Fitr is one of the two major festivals of the Muslim world. Bangladesh being a Muslim majority country, the joy and happiness of Eid are spread to all the citizens of the country, regardless of their religion.

Returning to the root, buying new clothes, coloring hands with henna, praying for dead, going for Eid prayer, Eid special foods and desserts, visiting relatives these are common activities during this festival.

Fasting month starts in late April, since day time is longer during summer in Finland, it´s bit difficult to fast here.
