Our ongoing projects

BioVesi – Boosting Sustainability in Industrial Water Treatment Using Bio-Based Solutions

Our objective is to increase the use of bio-based materials and biological processes in industrial water treatment in order to enable the most efficient possible recycling of process by-products and end products, or their upgrading into value-added products. The aim is to develop sustainable, integrated concepts for the purification and reuse of industrial process waters.

Business from Fungi in Kanta-Häme

Our goal is to establish a fungi biorefinery within HAMK’s SmartBio education and research centre, serving as a centre of expertise for the development and testing of new composite materials containing fungal mycelium. Fungi materials are utilised in packaging, construction materials, and the textile industry.

Coordination Project for the National ERDF Themes for Green Transition

The task of the coordination project is to strengthen the impact and effectiveness of the national themes of the green transition (energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emission reduction, climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, as well as a carbon-neutral circular economy society) by supporting projects implementing these themes and facilitating collaboration between the projects and…

Cutting Food Loss and Waste in Europe (CIBUS)

CIBUS aims to reduce food loss and waste by increasing regions’ capacity to develop innovative regional policies. Local and regional authorities have an important role in creating a policy environment that stimulates prevention and reduction of food loss and waste.

F.I.N.E. – Farm Innovation for Nutrient Efficiency

In this international cooperation project, we study and promote sustainable nutrient use and circular economy practices in agriculture. The project will result in new products and services that improve nutrient recycling and nutrient use efficiency, support farmers’ decision-making, and more broadly benefit the food system and the environment.

F3 – Food, Future, Fermentation

We implement practical trials at HAMK’s SmartBio Center, where we research and test alternative raw materials. Our aim is to offer companies in the confectionery and bakery sectors, as well as producers of raw-material components, concrete solutions for processing alternative raw materials and assessing their usability.
